The message of the founder and head of the Institute

The Mediterranean basin is the intersection point of three main continents: Asia, Europe, and Africa. The basin has recently attracted the attention of multinational companies, media agencies, and tensions among regional powers. The hydrocarbon revelry and natural gas export in the eastern Mediterranean might bring a new geopolitical change. In addition, the East Mediterranean has a massive role in the international political economy due to the transportation of oil and natural gas from the Middle East to Europe. The accumulated problems in the region, such as climate change and pollution, the Migrant crisis, the unresolved Cyprus problem, the Syrian civil war crisis, Israeli- Palestine conflicts, Turkey's behaviors with the surrounding countries, renewable energy, the role of the multinational corporations, the future of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) and so on, are parts of our focus. Despite all of these, the deformation role of the State in Iraq and then the Kurdistan Region as a stable corner of Iraq, as well as economic diversity and political stability in our conferences and assessment papers, are considered a priority. All of these above sensitive and strategic issues are included in the "Mediterranean Institute for Regional Studies" work impartially and scientifically.

Let us not forget that oil, natural gas, water resources, and environmental protection are common ground for all.

Our Institute aims to enhance local human resources and eyeing to become an accredited global agency. The other side of research centers as non-state actors is strengthening coexistence mechanisms and creating a favorable atmosphere for dialogue and rapprochement between the conflicting parties.
